Ambulatory Surgical Center
Having surgery doesn’t always mean an overnight stay!
As part of our commitment to provide a full range of orthopaedic and surgical services, the OSS Ambulatory Surgery Center, or ASC, is an outpatient surgical facility for those procedures that do not require an overnight stay in a hospital. The ASC is located on OSS Health’s Powder Mill Campus at 1855 Powder Mill Road in York off the main lobby in Suite 210. Surgical procedures are performed here in a safe and comfortable setting using state-of-the-art equipment and the newest surgical techniques.
The ASC features four operating rooms, a spacious pre-operative and recovery area, a large and comfortable waiting room and plenty of convenient parking. Our expert staff is committed to providing quality and professional care. We strive to make your experience at the ASC a positive one, providing you with the best surgical care available.
The OSS ASC is accredited by the AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare). This means that we comply with the high standards set by this organization to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.
Preparing for Surgery
Your physician and our staff will discuss your procedure with you.
- Please ask all the questions that you need to feel comfortable with your procedure and know what to expect
- Tell the doctor what medications you are currently taking
- Complete the health history form accurately so our staff has all relevant information
- Please disclose relevant medical and health information to us, as well as any unexpected changes in your condition or health status, to help us provide the appropriate care
If you are scheduled for surgery, the ASC staff will contact you the afternoon before your procedure with your arrival time and further instructions. If you have not received a call from them by 5 PM, please call us at 717-747-8306. Plan to arrive 15 to 20 minutes early. Question any variation in medications, treatment or plan of care that differs from what you or your family was told to expect.
If you will be receiving general anesthesia or sedation, you will not be permitted to drive yourself home after the procedure. You will need an escort who should be at least eighteen years of age and able to remain with you for the first 24 hours. If you are having local anesthesia, you will also need an escort to drive you home. Your escort must stay in the building during your surgery/procedure. The OSS ASC offers a comfortable waiting room and a cafe for the comfort of your escort. If you do not have an escort, we will be forced to postpone your procedure.
Every patient having surgery at the OSS Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) has certain rights and responsibilities. These rights are guaranteed and respected by the staff at the OSS ASC, but must also be adhered to by the physicians, families and visitors in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health. You will receive a copy of these rights and responsibilities in your Ambulatory Surgery Center patient education booklet. Click here for the Patient Rights and Responsibilities.
On the Day of Surgery
Upon your arrival at the ASC, our staff will strive to make your experience a positive one. Once you have checked in, a nurse will take you into our pre-operative area to take your vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature and pulse.
If receiving anesthesia, your anesthesiologist will talk with you to explain the process and answer any questions you have regarding your anesthesia. Finally, your physician will visit to answer any final questions.
After the pre-operative procedures, you will be taken to a state-of-the-art operating room for your surgery.
Upon completion of your surgery, you will recover in a spacious, comfortable area where your escort can join you. As your recovery progresses, you will be given post-surgery discharge instructions to follow when you arrive at home. It is important for your escort to be present to hear those instructions as you may not remember all of them due to the anesthesia. Our staff will contact you after your procedure to follow up on your care and check on your progress.
