Penn State Health and OSS Health collaborate to enhance orthopaedic services across West Shore region

Penn State Health and OSS Health have announced a new collaboration to help meet the growing demand for orthopaedic services in the region. The partnership will bring together a wealth of orthopaedic expertise, enhancing patient access to high-quality care.

Beginning in Spring 2025, Penn State Health Orthopaedics physicians will provide services at the OSS Health West Shore clinic located on Good Hope Road in Enola. In addition, OSS Health and Penn State Health plan to bolster the services offered at the Good Hope Road location in the next year with expanded clinics, physical therapy, and ambulatory surgical services. These services will optimize patient choices and address the growing demand to deliver high quality care in lower cost, outpatient settings.

OSS Health, a physician-owned and operated integrated delivery network, serves eight locations in the region, including two in the West Shore area — Enola and Mechanicsburg. OSS Health will continue to operate as an independent health system, with Penn State Health physicians working alongside OSS Health physicians and advanced practice providers in a number of orthopaedic subspecialty areas.

Additionally, a select group of OSS Health physicians will join the medical staff at Hampden Medical Center.

“This collaboration of orthopaedic expertise in a new, centralized location will expand patient access to convenient, high-level, quality orthopaedic care, innovative therapies and sub-specialty services,” said Dr. April Armstrong, C. McCollister Evarts Professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Penn State College of Medicine, and vice president of Musculoskeletal Services, Penn State Health.

The partnership between Penn State Health and OSS Health is further strengthened by each organization’s commitment to education. OSS Health supports an eight to ten week orthopaedic rotation for fifth-year Penn State Health orthopaedic residents, which is in its second year. The goal is to expose the residents to both a private practice orthopaedic group and an academic hospital setting. In addition, five OSS Health physicians went to Penn State College of Medicine for medical school and/or completed their residencies at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

This collaboration not only enhances patient care but also fosters a strong educational environment for future orthopaedic specialists.
