Dr. Amit Patel
Amit R. Patel, MD is board-certified by both the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Board of Spine Surgeons. Dr. Patel treats general orthopaedic issues including joint replacement and extremity trauma, but he has special expertise and fellowship training in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of the spine. His primary interests are treating complex spinal deformity, degenerative spinal conditions, back and neck pain, and pediatric and adult spinal trauma. Dr. Patel performs minimally invasive spine surgeries as well as surgical second opinions.
Dr. Patel’s goal is to get patients back to doing the activities they enjoy. In his leisure time, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, sports and the outdoors.

Many surgeons seem to be hung up on standards of care that do not fit all patients. The results of those procedures were not good in my cases. However, Dr. Patel listens carefully and spends lots of time with the patient and in my case of a severe scoliosis and several previous operations that were failures, he was hesitant to tackle my situation for a number of reasons including my being over 80 years old. He heard my thoughts on what I thought was causing my pain and did not buy into it initially. Subsequently, I was satisfied that he would take care of my concerns and in fact did more than I expected to fuse a bit more of the spine correcting part of the terrible curvature I have. My pain levels were very high prior to surgery running 8-9 near tear level. Now, 3 months post surgery my pain is near 0 laying down, 1 to 2 sitting which is fairly constant. It was progressively worse earlier. Standing really sent pain levels soaring fast. A huge improvement now using canes & walker.

I am beyond happy with my care from Dr Patel. He gave me a much less invasive option than the other Dr I saw. I’m so happy I got a second opinion. His goal was to get me back to the things I enjoy doing. That would not have been possible with the other Dr.
