Pharmacy Refill Requests
To provide our patients with the safest level of care, we will no longer accept refill requests from pharmacies for any prescriptions ordered by OSS Health’s Orthopaedic, Spine, Podiatry, Sports Medicine, Pain Management & Rheumatology providers. This will go into effect on 5/4/2020.
While pharmacy auto-refill programs are beneficial to people who need medication to treat chronic conditions, dose changes or medication stoppage can create issues of stockpiling, risk of misuse, unintentional excessive doses being taken and needless financial strain. In light of the opioid epidemic ravaging Pennsylvania and the United States, we feel it best for our patients, their families and the community to better control the amount of prescription medications out in the public.
It is our stance that our patients, not a pharmacy, should initiate the request for a medication refill directly to the provider. The patient and provider know the discussed plan of care and are the best sources to address medication needs.
OSS Orthopaedic, Podiatry, Spine, Sports Medicine, Pain Management & Rheumatology patients should request a refill through OSS Health’s Patient Portal or call the OSS Health’s Prescription Refill Line Monday through Friday from 7 am to 5 pm at: 717-848-4800, option 7, option 2 and leave a message with the following information:
- Patient’s Full Name & Date of Birth
- Patient’s Phone Number, in case of questions or need to contact you
- Name of the Medication, Dose of the Medication & Frequency
- The Name of the Ordering Provider
- Pharmacy Name, Address and Phone Number where prescription to be electronically sent. If your pharmacy does not participate in e-prescribing, please note that a paper script will need picked up.
If you are currently enrolled in your pharmacy’s auto-refill program, please remove any prescriptions ordered by an OSS Health’s Orthopaedic, Podiatry, Spine, Sports, Pain Management & Rheumatology provider from the auto-refill profile.
Patients on medications ordered and monitored by the OSS Health Internal Medicine providers will be able to continue to use their pharmacies for auto-refill requests or the OSS Health’s Patient Portal Medication Refill Request. However effective 5/4/2020 any refills for medications ordered by OSS Health’s Orthopaedic, Spine, Podiatry, Sports Medicine, Pain Management and Rheumatology providers will require a request initiated by the patient/guardian or caregiver and will not accept pharmacy initiated auto-refill requests.
OSS Health’s Internal Medicine patients can continue to use the auto-refill programs at their participating pharmacy.
If you are currently enrolled in your pharmacy’s auto-refill program, please remove any prescriptions ordered by an OSS Health’s Orthopaedic, Podiatry, Spine, Sports, Pain Management or Rheumatology provider from the auto-refill profile.
