Dr. Michael Furman
Michael Furman, MS, MD is a board-certified physiatrist (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist) with ACGME subspecialization in Pain Medicine and in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Furman has been a director and instructor at numerous spinal procedure courses and workshops. He is also recognized as a thought leader and educator in spine care and has won numerous awards for his teaching and clinical care including the AAPM&R Musculoskeletal Council Service Award, PASSOR Distinguished Clinician Award, the Rosenthal Award, Castle Connolly Top Doctors Award, Best Doctors Award and Patients’ Choice Award.
Dr Furman’s passion is teaching spinal care as well as safe and efficient application of spinal technology. He has special interest in rehabilitation and minimally invasive interventions for spine and joint-related pain using state-of-the-art techniques to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal problems. These techniques include electrodiagnostic studies, discography, spinal cord stimulation surgeries, real-time fluoroscopy and musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
He has authored numerous original research articles and book chapters and is writing a book entitled ATLAS OF IMAGE-GUIDED SPINAL PROCEDURES.

I have been a patient of Dr. Furman's for over 7 years now. He has great bedside manners, he realizes every patient is different and needs to be treated different, discusses options with you and what will be best for you, listens to what you have to say, and walks you through all his procedures and makes you as comfortable as he can. I will not go any where else for my chronic pain/RSD!! His secretary Cathy is awesome as well! As an update, on Thursday June 13 he replaced both of my Spinal Cord Stimulators and did an amazing job. Thank you for all your help, Dr. Furman!!

I visited Dr Furman several weeks ago and he gave me a guided cortisone injection into my right shoulder that had given me increasing pain over the last year. I had several issues with it but when I got to the point I could not shoot sporting clays, fly fish or even reach for a plate out of the cupboard without a lot of pain. I visited OSS and was advised to get the shot and start PT instead of going straight to the operation stage. Dr. Furman put me at ease immediately and made me feel very comfortable. He explained exactly what was going to happen and how it would feel. He talked during the procedure and had a very easy voice to listen to and a great sense of humor that put me at ease. As soon as I got off the table I had full range of motion without pain. I would recommend him to anyone and have to several friends. After 8 weeks of PT my shoulder has gained strength, even more range of motion and is 95 % pain free with the odd twinge if I overextend it. Thank you, Dr. Furman
