Giselle Aerni MD, FAMSSM

I grew up as a three-sport athlete playing soccer, basketball, and softball, before getting into Taekwondo in high school and competing in the Junior Olympics. I went to Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA where I played NCAA Division III Lacrosse and captained my senior year. From there I went to the University of Pittsburgh for medical school and realized I loved the mix of keeping people healthy and active through sports. I completed my Family Medicine residency in Pittsburgh at UPMC St. Margaret and my Sports Medicine fellowship at UConn.

Prior to OSS, I have been the head team physician at UConn and Yale, as well as a team physician for the WNBA Connecticut Sun, Gettysburg College, and too many high schools to count. I have also been the fellowship director at two primary care sports medicine fellowships, helping to train the next generation of primary care sports medicine physicians.

I am honored to work with all ages and all levels of athletes and active individuals. I enjoy helping my athletes perform at their best by considering a holistic approach to their care. With my teaching background, it’s important to me to empower my patients by helping them understand their diagnoses and treatment plans. I have a special interest inusing ultrasound-guided procedures when appropriate in order to help my patients through a minimally invasive approach.

In my leisure time, I enjoy reading, working out and being active, container gardening, and spending time with my family and friends.
