Meet Dr. James Klunk

I was born and raised in York county, and after graduating Spring Grove High School, I completed my undergraduate studies at Gettysburg College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I received my medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, and completed residency training at WellSpan York Hospital in York, PA. I also completed a post-residency spine surgery fellowship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

I am an orthopaedic spine surgeon with special expertise in adult spinal degeneration and deformity. I watched my father struggle with his back pain throughout my childhood, and witnessed first-hand the pain and suffering that can occur for patients and their families without proper treatment. Non-operative management should be explored to its fullest extent, but once your quality of life is jeopardized, I utilize the latest and most advanced technologies in robotics and navigation, motion preservation, and minimally invasive techniques to return you to a healthy, active lifestyle.

My philosophy follows a disciplined approach, with focus on:

  • Taking time to listen and understand you.
  • Examining you carefully and thoroughly.
  • Developing a personalized treatment plan, favoring initial conservative management, whenever possible.
  • Delivering caring and thorough follow-up.
  • Maintaining an open and direct line of communication with patients and their families.

In my leisure time, I enjoy hunting, hiking, working on cars, and spending time with my wife and children.
