Dr. Usman Zahir
Dr. Usman Zahir is a orthopaedic spine surgeon with specialized training in endoscopic spine surgery. As an instructor, he continues to teach and train other surgeons from around the country on the use of endoscopic techniques in the spine. Dr. Zahir’s interest in endoscopics began out of a desire to find less invasive ways of treating common spinal problems. Endoscopic spine surgery is the least invasive surgical treatment for spinal stenosis and disc herniations.
During his orthopedic residency and spine fellowship training at the University of Maryland Medical Center/R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Zahir received training in a wide variety of spinal conditions. He then served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital for five years before joining HCA Virginia Physicians. Since 2018, much of Dr. Zahir’s practice has focused on endoscopic spine surgery.
As a regional expert on endoscopics, Dr. Zahir is often asked to provide second opinions for patients undergoing traditional spinal surgery. Dr. Zahir’s practice philosophy centers on patient education. He takes pride in promoting a patient centered approach in treatment.
During his free time, Dr. Zahir enjoys traveling with his wife.

Dr. Zahir gave me three options for removing a growth that was pinching my spinal cord in my lower back. This growth was causing tingling pain in my left leg as well as a random shooting pain in my hip. The least invasive option only put me off work for a month. The results after the operation was immediate. The discomfort I experienced on my left side that made it difficult to walk at times was completely gone. The other two options Dr. Zahir suggested would have put me off work for a longer period of time and had added risk included. I am thankful for the work Dr. Zahir did and have no reservations recommending him for any spinal issues to people I care about. I also have to say that the support staff working with Dr. Zahir are wonderful. They were prompt and professional whenever I posed a question on the patient portal about my treatment as well as all the necessary pre test and post op appointments. I felt completely at ease during the whole process with Dr. Usman Zahir and all the people that work with him at OSS York

After studying my MRI Dr Zahir was able to quickly diagnose my issue and offer possible treatment plans to relieve my back and leg nerve pain. 2 months post surgery and I am completely pain free and getting back to my normal active lifestyle. I could not have asked for a better outcome.
